VESTIGES OF THE SOUL
An expressionist work composed of three paintings, it explores the depths of human emotions through the gaze and hands of three women who, in their faces and gestures, embody the weight of introspection and overwhelm. Each piece captures a moment suspended in time, where the women appear trapped in a silent, internal dialogue, loaded with symbolism. Through their prominent hands and gazes, we are invited to discover layers of vulnerability and resilience.
First painting: The woman in this piece shows an expression of apathy, her eyes lost in an undetermined point, as if resigned to the monotony of life. Her oversized hands cradle her face, and in that contact, we see the tension of someone holding their own emotional weight, almost as if trying not to crumble. Second painting: A woman rests her face in her hands in a gesture of exhaustion and despair. In front of her, three candles on the verge of extinguishing symbolize the fleeting nature of time and opportunity, while a single flame burns brightly, like the last vestige of hope in a dark environment. Third painting: Here, the woman expresses deep anguish, her hands entwined with her face like a protective shield. The expression of anxiety and desperation is undeniable, reflecting the inner conflict of someone confronting a reality full of challenges and problems, where the search for answers seems endless. Are we condemned to an intense life, some days surrounded by nuances and patterns, others facing a cruel world, barely compassionate, yet full of challenges? Sentimentalism blames circumstances and fate, but they are nothing more than experiences and decisions in a world loaded with emotions that rise and fall like an elevator. Today I’m on top, but at any moment everything changes—what’s the issue? This collection is a reflection of life’s intensity and the contradictory emotions we all face, where hands and gazes not only bear the pain but also the strength needed to keep moving forward in a world indifferent to internal struggles.
